Why we started Âmérrance

Thomas Jreige on why Âmérrance exists: travel is the gateway to the soul, our team plans your trip, you book it, and real people answer when you write.

Blue wooden fishing boats moored against a stone quay at golden hour, with a lone traveller walking away along the harbour.

Earlier this month my wife Kristen and I drove close to 1,200 kilometres in three days through Western Australia's Wheatbelt and Great Southern. We walked among everlastings at a farm open day, stood beside Lake Ewlyamartup before nine in the morning, and reached Wave Rock just after two in the afternoon. I had seen Wave Rock before. Kristen had not, and standing there beside her on her first visit is the part of the trip I will remember longest.

It was three days, a full tank and a handful of country towns. We came home a little different, which is what good travel does, and it is why Âmérrance exists.

Travel is the gateway to the soul

I believe travel is the gateway to the soul. Âmérrance is built on that one idea.

A place you have never been asks things of you. You eat what is put in front of you. You find your way down a street where none of the names are familiar. You talk with people whose days look nothing like yours. Somewhere in all of that you learn something about yourself that you would never have learned at home.

This happens three hours down the road as surely as it happens on the other side of the world. I think everyone should have it, whether the trip is domestic or international, a weekend or a month.

Why so many trips stay as someday

Most people I talk to have a place they keep promising themselves. The wanting is already there. The planning is what holds them back.

Which month is best? How many days are enough? What are the entry rules? Which part of town should you stay in, and how do you get there from the airport at midnight? Each question is small. Together they are enough to push a trip into next year, and then the year after that.

We started Âmérrance to take that weight off your shoulders.

We plan the trip and you book it

You tell us where you want to go, how long you have and the pace you like. Our team builds your itinerary and the practical detail around it, including the route, the timing and what is worth knowing before you land. You then book it your own way, or through one of our partner agents if you would like a hand.

You stay in charge of your bookings and your budget, and you travel with a plan made by people who know the ground.

The team is well travelled, and its specialities are geopolitics, international law, and mindset and psychology. In practice we read a place properly before we write about it, we explain local laws and customs calmly, and we understand why a trip gets put off and what gets it moving again.

Run by humans, for humans

Âmérrance is run by humans, for humans. When you write to us, a person reads your message and a person writes back. Every itinerary is put together by someone who has thought about your trip in particular.

We are based in Perth, and we plan journeys all over the world for travellers wherever they live.

We hold one standard for everything we publish. It has to be something we would hand to a person we care about before they board.

Start with one place

A red gravel country road running to the horizon between verges of pink and white everlasting wildflowers.

You probably had a place in mind while you were reading this. Write it down today, and put the month you would like to go beside it. A someday with a month beside it is the start of a plan.

Âmérrance Explorer is our paid membership at $60 AUD a year, GST included, and it brings itinerary planning, member guides, alerts and offers, and direct access to our team.
