About Âmérrance
Âmérrance. A soul that wanders.
The word
Âmérrance joins two French words. Âme is the soul. Errance is wandering, the long, unhurried movement of someone who is going somewhere without yet knowing all of what they will find. Together they describe a soul that wanders. The accent on the é marks the place where the two words meet. We say it ah-may-RAHNSS.
We chose the word because it names something every serious traveller knows and few can put into language. A journey moves the body across a map. It also moves the person. Someone comes home from a place that asked something of them, and they carry that place quietly for the rest of their life. The street they walked at first light, the meal shared with strangers and the law they had to learn before they landed all stay with them. That slow change of the self is what Âmérrance means, and it is the reason we exist.
The three dots
Above our name sit three dots.

Together they form an ellipsis, the mark a sentence makes when it has more to say. Every someday is written this way. The thought is already there, and its ending is still open.
The first two dots stand for the preparation that comes before a journey. One is understanding the place, including its history, its politics and its laws. The other is understanding what the journey will ask of the person taking it. They share a colour because they belong together, and they are the part of the work we do with you.
The third dot is the moment you go. It carries its own colour because that step belongs to the traveller. It marks the soul setting out, where the sentence carries on in a direction only you can write.

The moment we exist for
Most people have a "someday". It might be a city they have read about since childhood, a stretch of ocean they want to dive, or an event they have promised themselves they will see once. Someday is patient, and it is easy to keep putting off.
Âmérrance exists for the moment someone stops saying "someday' and goes. We keep that moment close in everything we write, and we give it the preparation it deserves. A traveller who understands where they are going carries themselves differently when they arrive. They move with more calm, more respect and more freedom.
Who we are
Âmérrance is a small team of specialists founded by Thomas in Perth. Each of us has travelled widely, often well beyond the places most itineraries reach. Between us we have walked border towns, sat through long waits in consular offices, eaten in kitchens that never appear in guidebooks, and read many regions closely enough to know how quickly they can change.
Our working disciplines shape everything we publish.
- Geopolitics lets us read a region before we write about it. Our safety guidance rests on an understanding of who governs a place, what shaped it and what is shifting there now.
- International law lets us answer the questions that sit underneath a trip. These include visas, dual nationality, local laws that visitors rarely hear about, and what happens when something goes wrong far from home.
- Mindset and psychology give the idea of someday a practical backbone. We understand why people defer the journeys that matter to them, and we know the small, real steps that move a plan from intention to a booked flight.
We write from Perth, and our routes, flight times and planning windows begin here. For readers elsewhere, that gives our work a particular vantage point. It comes from one of the most distant cities on earth, where every journey starts with a long flight and is worth planning well.

What sets us apart
Plenty of people write beautifully about travel. Plenty more can book a flight. Âmérrance was built around a combination we have not found in one place before. It brings together a careful reading of the world, a working knowledge of the law that governs movement across it, and an understanding of the mind of the person making the journey.
That combination changes the quality of the advice. When we tell you a region is calm, we have read why. When we tell you a rule matters, we can explain where it comes from and what it means for you. When we tell you that now is the time to go, we know how difficult that decision can be, and we help you make it with a clear head.
We hold ourselves to a simple standard. Everything we publish should be something we would give to a person we care about before they boarded a plane. We check before we state. We keep our tone measured, because good judgement rarely needs to raise its voice.
How we work
Our public writing is free and always will be. The blog, our Instagram and Facebook pages and the monthly Âmérrance letter carry the places, stories, food, seasons and events worth crossing the world for. Anyone can follow us for as long as they like and take real value from it.
Members work with us more closely. Membership brings full itineraries, detailed country dossiers, event packs, our complete points and loyalty guide, and direct access to the team for the questions that matter to a specific trip. We keep membership deliberately considered in size, so every member is answered by a person who knows their plans.
Your next step
